INSTALLATION

Q2000: Do your systems have an HDMI interface? No, however you can purchase an inexpensive DVI to HDMI adapter or cable to connect to your HDMI capable display.

DISPLAY

Q3000: What is the best type of display to use with Inteset systems? Please click here to see the “Before You Buy” page. Q3020: Do non-HDTV displays work with Inteset systems? Yes, through S-Video and composite video interfaces. However, resolutions supported by these connections are insufficient for many functions available on the systems such as gaming and Web browsing. Displays supporting HDTV and gaming resolutions are recommended (please see the “Before You Buy” page). Q3040: I only have a component interface on my HDTV display, are there any issues with this? Displays with a component input only will work with the Denzel system. However, installation and configuration for this type of input is tricky and may (depending on the make and model of the display) require special software and support services to configure. Please check with Inteset to determine if your component only display requires special software and support services to configure. Q3060: Do Inteset systems support the HDMI video interface? Not directly. You will need to purchase an inexpensive DVI to HDMI adapter or cable to connect to an HDMI video interface on your display. Q3080: Can I use more than one display with the Denzel or VANA systems? Yes. On the Denzel model, you can connect to two displays. Any 2 of the following video interfaces can be used simultaneously: composite, S-Video, component, VGA (15-pin), DVI-I. On the VANA model, you can connect to two displays. Any 2 of the following video interfaces can be used simultaneously: composite, S-Video, VGA (15-pin), DVI-I.

AUDIO

Q4000: Do I need a home theater receiver with the Denzel system? No. The Denzel has built-in hardware-based DACs for processing DTS-ES and Dolby Digital EX sound. Note that the Denzel does not contain an internal amplifier, so self powered speakers or an external amplifier is required. If you want to use your receiver for decoding instead of the Denzel, you can simply connect the Denzel to your receiver with the S/PDIF Output interface. Q4020: Do I need an amplifier with the Denzel system? Yes. You will need either self-powered speakers or an amplifier as the Denzel has no built-in amplifier Q4040: Does the Denzel support the SACD disc format? No. However, it does support the popular 5 channel DVD-A disc format. Q4060: Can I connect the digital output (S/PDIF out) from my cable or satellite box to the Denzel to do Dolby Digital (5.1 channel) decoding? Yes. There is an optical S/PDIF input available on the system that will process Dolby Digital sources.

VIDEO

Q5000: Are video codecs (needed for DVD, TV, and video playback) included with Inteset systems? Yes. You will not need to purchase this separately. The popular and highly rated nVidia DVD video codecs are included with the system. Q5020: Do you include any additional video codecs/filters with your systems? No. Only those included with the Windows MCE operating system and the nVidia video codecs are included.

AUDIO

Q6000: Can I pass HDTV from my Cable or Satellite box through the Denzel? There is no capability to capture the full HDTV signal from your cable or satellite box (STB). However, you can connect the STB via S-Video which is a standard “DVD” quality signal. You can connect the STB to Denzel to allow pause and record capabilities, but the resolution will be reduced to S-Video (480i). Full HDTV signal can still be viewed on your display. See the diagram below that describes the recommended setup: Q6020: Will the Denzel work with more than one set top box (I have a cable and satellite box)? No. Although you can physically connect up to two STBs, the MCE program guide supports the off-air digital tuner and 1 STB connection. Q6040: Do I need an HDTV antenna? If you wish to use Denzel's off-air digital TV tuner, you will need a digital antenna placed on your rooftop or attic. Please see http://www.antennaweb.org for information on digital antennas and HDTV reception in your area. Q6060: Can the VANA play back recorded HDTV content? Yes. Although the VANA can not record HDTV, it can playback HDTV content stored on the Denzel server. Q6080: Can I watch live TV and record another show at the same time on the Denzel? Yes. In fact, you can record two shows (1 analog, 1 digital) and watch a DVD move all at the same time. Q6100: Can I view two programs at once? No. Only one video output is available at a time within the MCE interface.

Q7000: Can the program guide support both cable and satellite listings simultaneously? No. However, it can support your off-air HDTV listings and your cable/satellite listings simultaneously. Q7020: Can the program guide support both OTA Digital and cable/satellite listings simultaneously? Yes.

RECORDED TV

Q8000: On the Denzel, can I record two programs at the same time? Yes (1 analog, 1 digital). Plus you can watch a movie too. Q8020: Can I record TV from the VANA to the Denzel (can I record to a network drive)? Yes. Although not inherent in MCE, Inteset has integrated a seamless solution to this issue for plug-n-play connectivity with the Denzel server. Q8040: Can the VANA see/playback recorded TV stored on the Denzel? Yes. Although not inherent in MCE, Inteset has integrated a seamless solution to this issue. Q8060: Can I schedule a recording from a remote location? Yes. Using any browser, you can schedule a show to be recorded on your Denzel or VANA system with the FREE MSN Schedule Recording Web service (see http://tv.msn.com/tv/guide).

DVD

Q9000: Where does the My Movies DVD movie profile information come from? Inteset maintains its own DVD movie profile database on its servers. We do this so that you can quickly and accurately retrieve DVD profile information for your movie collection. This is a FREE service offered on Inteset systems only. Q9020: Does Inteset include DVD ripping (copying) software on the systems? No. However popular DVD ripping software is available for free by download over the Internet. Q9040: Do the systems support the up-and-coming Blue-ray, HD-DVD movie disks? The Denzel system will support the HD-DVD movie disk format in future upgrades. Q9060: If I have several VANA systems throughout my home, how many DVD movies stored on my Denzel server can be played back on my VANA systems simultaneously? Up to 10 DVD movie streams can be played back over a 100mb wired network (standard household network).

REMOTE CONTROL

Q10000: Can I program my learning remote to control an Inteset? Yes. Many learning remotes will work with the Inteset systems. Q10020: Can I play back content stored on the Denzel from a standard computer? Yes. Most content can be played back on any computer with the proper software (Windows Media Player will play back all content created with MCE). Q10040: Can I use an advanced control system (Crestron, AMX, etc.) with a VANA or Denzel system? Yes. Inteset has created a full two-way communication module and protocol for use with advanced control systems. This software works with the Inteset TP420-SD and VP420-SD systems only.

Q11000: What is the difference between the Denzel and VANA models? Below are the features the Denzel model offers in addition to VANA features: Server configuration: Is configured to share the “Media Library” to work with other computers. Yes. In fact, the VANA can be upgraded to 400Gb of storage capacity making it an excellent media server. The system is configured out of the box to operate independently or in conjunction with a Denzel system.

BACKUPS/EXTENDED STORAGE

Q12000: Can the system be automated to do backups? Yes. The Windows “Backup” utility can be used for this. Ideally, you can back up all files to an extended storage device such as the Inteset TeraRAID™ products. Q12020: How much storage capacity is available on the Denzel? You can store up to 2 Terabytes of non-RAIDed data on the Denzel’s internal storage (upgraded hard disk required). Furthermore, external storage devices such as the Inteset TeraRAID systems can be used for an extra 2-4 Terabytes. SATA RAID SAN systems can also be used by connecting via the 2nd Gigabyte Ethernet port (TP420-SD model only). Q12040: Can the TeraRAID external storage devices be used with the TP420-S and VP420-S models? Yes, via the USB interface.

INTESET SOFTWARE

Q13000: Is Inteset software available separately. No. Inteset software can only be obtained with Inteset hardware. Inteset designs its software to work with Inteset hardware. This is the best way to insure proper operation and robustness of the system. The end result is a dependable, easy-to-use home entertainment system.
